XIII•SF is a line of fun (and slightly weird) merchandise designed by Tim Butler, principal of XIII Design, LLC in San Francisco. Tim has worked in the music merchandise industry extensively, having designed and illustrated t-shirts for Slayer, Slipknot, Cathedral, Metallica, Chimaira, Led Zeppelin, HIM, Disturbed, Bullet For My Valentine, Lamb of God, DragonForce, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, the Clash and many others. Tim started XIII•SF because he fell in love with that stupid banana.
Discharging is a screenprint process that produces a soft, wearable, bright print on dark garments by "bleaching" the ink color into the garment itself. It does not have the rubbery, bulletproof feel usually associated with regular plastisol inks (like the t-shirts you'd usually get at a rock concert or a novelty store). When you get your new XIII discharge tee, the printed area will feel slightly rough, but after one wash you won't be able to feel the difference between the printed area and the rest of the garment. Try that with your Night Ranger tee! Recent advances in techniques and materials allow for a beautifully detailed print - and it will never crack! The discharge process is slightly more expensive than using conventional t-shirt inks, but we feel that the quality of the print is well worth the extra cost. All garments on this site are printed with discharge inks. To maximize the life of your t-shirt and the vibrancy of the garment and ink colors, we suggest washing in cold water only and line-drying.
